Review: Rifle Paper Co. Coasters (+ Mandarine Mousse Recipe)

mandarine-dessert

Recently I was faced with an impossible choice: pick a single item from Rifle Paper Co. to review on the blog. I’m telling you, I spent so much time browsing the site in order to decide! Cards? Check. Journals? Check. Wedding stuff, kitchen stuff? Check and check. Everything in Anna Bond’s whimsical designs and printed on great quality paper. I finally decided on this set of Royal Cocktail coasters, which I thought would be both useful and pretty. And I was right.

The cardboard box contains eight coasters, in four different designs. The names of classic cocktails (White Russian, Pink Lady, Bloody Mary and Brandy Alexander) are translated into characters, in the style of playing cards. To be honest, the first think I noticed was the resemblance to playing cards, and only later did I catch the whole cocktails thing. The coasters are a beautiful addition to my home and, I suppose, a great conversation starter.

Mandarine Mousse Recipe

(adapted from here)

Ingredients (makes 4 servings):

  • small carton of liquid cream
  • 1 mandarine ( 1 more for decoration)
  • 2 egg whites
  • 8 biscuits

How to:

Start by squeezing the mandarine. Remove any seeds, and keep the juice and zest.

Whisk together the zest with the cream until the composition starts thickening. Add the juice and keep whisking – it will very quickly harden, so don’t overdo it!

In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites, until they form soft peaks. Fold them into the initial composition.

In four glasses, crumble some biscuits (2 biscuits/glass). Then spoon the mousse on top, and finish with a slice of mandarine for decoration. Refrigerate for a few hours before serving and enjoy!
