DIY: Flower pin

I realized I made this tutorial a while back and never published it! It’s for a lightweight, summery pin that you can make quite easily and then wear at the neckline of a peter pan collar, for example. Here is what you need for it:

  • Thin synthetic fabric in two colors
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Beads
  • Safety pin or brooch base

The first thing you need to do is cut four thin and long strips of fabric of each color. The smaller the strips, the smaller the pin.  Then burn around the edges of the fabric, using the lighter.

Take the first strip and pass a thread through its length, leaving the fabric to gather and curl up. Make it tight, and then do the same will the other three strips, using the same thread. Once your first flower is done, repeat the steps for the second one, and finish by sewing in a bead.

Next, stitch the two flowers together through the sides. The front will be the side with the visible bead. On the back, stitch the safety pin or the brooch base, and that’s that!
