Apple picking

Growing up in the countryside, I always hated the adjacent chores: fruit picking, vegetable planting, and everything in between. As much I hated studying for History tests, it was a pleasure compared to any work outside.  A thousand years later, I find that this adorable apple-print dress  would be perfect for… apple picking! That is, if apple picking were a fun activity, where you get to dress up in 60s inspired dresses and sing your heart out, like in a musical. You could even stuff one or two smaller apples in its pockets – that’s always a plus!

Moody Monday: mint

This color has been on my mind and in front of my eyes since late winter. I kinda have to wonder: why didn’t I notice it before? I’ve always loved pastels, but I never realized how charming mint was until I’ve seen it everywhere. Do I really need trends to come and tell me what to like? I like to think that I don’t follow trends blindly – but this one really stuck with me and I can’t seem to let it go. But there’s one thing that settles me: I know you love mint, too.

Gala Avanpremiere, 10th edition

The 10th edition of Gala Avanpremiere was my first one, and my impressions were mixed. On one hand, I liked seeing so many familiar faces, from models to bloggers and local celebrities. I liked some of the collections and the overall mood of the show. What I did not like was having to stand throughout the show, and having to wait for a whole hour after the announced starting time – if you know me, you know I lose my patience waiting.

Ioana Ciolacu, “Aether”. Inspired by the Northern lands, isolation and fantasy. A minimal collection with voluminous shapes, only in black and white.

A & S Negulescu, “Raw”. Anca and Silvia Negulescu are looking to find some pure, raw essence in their collection. There is interesting usage of leather, almost erotic, but nothing outrageous. I would’ve liked to see some other colors here, like nude or beige.

Simona Semen, “Heaven Inside”. I’m so bored with black and with face masks on the catwalk. Leaving that aside, I really liked the two colorful looks from this collection, in a combination of blue and blush, and the usage of Bone accessories was quite interesting.

Lucian Pop, “Maya”. This menswear collection had just enough color for my taste. I wish I would’ve seen more of that in the women’s collections. What I didn’t understand about this line is why it was so summery in style, when the collection was autumn-winter, and why the male models were so rigid and almost shy.

Carmen Secareanu, “New Age College”. Did you know? Black is the new black. Carmen Secareanu’s collection was very urban, with a hint of hipster style, and it was accessorized to perfection with oversized beads necklaces by Roxana Davidescu and patent leather lace-up flats from Il Passo.

Natalia Vasiliev, “Golden Party”. Elegance from head to toe. With inspiration from Sankt Petersburg, the collection mixed brocade and velvet in royal colors and perfect silhouettes. I loved the golden accents from the Cristian Albu shoes and the spectacular necklaces and bracelets by Raluca Buzura.

Iris Serban, “Spiritele naturii”. A combination of romantic lace gowns, and sexy lingerie inspired looks, the collection bought a spot of color into the Gala.

The show ended with a collection by Dinu Bodiciu, but unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of it.

A little pink never hurt no one

As I already told you, I was in Bucharest last week for Gala Avanpremiere, a fashion show that is apparently pretty important in the field. I did take quite a lot of pictures at the show, but I’ll post that at a later time. Right now, let’s focus on this outfit that I wore that day – which, by the way, was a pretty long day. Part of it was meeting with Laura of Tokyo and Seoul Dreams for the first time, who was kind enough to take some pictures of me. I also got the chance to meet a few other fashion bloggers from Bucharest, but there was, unfortunately, not enough time to chat as much as I would’ve wanted to (waving over to The Hearabouts, The Wonder Fashion and Read My Mind).

Jordani Sarreal giveaway

Since I’ve been traveling this week, the giveaway that I’ve prepared for you is perfectly on topic! You can win a lovely travel set handmade by Jordani Sarreal. The two pouches can be used for cosmetics, accessories, lingerie or whatever else you need to carry. They’re great for organizing your luggage, and they look stylish, too, with lovely floral print on mustard cotton.

Jordani opened her store last year, and everything is handmade by her, in Tacoma, Washington. She started sewing at a very young age, learning from her mother. That’s why she dreams of starting a vintage-inspired clothing line for children, which I personally believe would look just darling.

If you want to win the above pictured Mustard Vine Floral Travel Set, here is what you have to do:

  • Follow Jordani on Twitter @jordanisarreal
  • Tell us in a comment what your next travel destination is.

That’s it! The giveaway is open to international readers and it closes in one week from today, on May 30th, when a winner will be selected at random. The winner will be announced on the blog.

Breakfast at Mickey D’s

While you can never spot me eating by myself in a restaurant in Cluj, being in a different city is somehow liberating, and you get to do tourist things like eat out and take pictures in the middle of the city. One of the reasons that this trip is so pleasant is that the friend that I’m staying with lives in the most amazing house near the old center of Bucharest. To my delight, the house is surrounded by cats. You can imagine that I took cat pictures for a lifetime, if one can ever get enough. Anyway, I’ll be at a fashion event tonight, Gala Avanpremiere, and I hope it’s gonna be fabulous.

Moody Monday: traveling

I’m starting this week as a visitor to another city, Bucharest, so my mood for packing and traveling pics is at its peak. I’ve been searching the internet high and low for some inspiration, and I’ve found some delightful pictures to share with you. I’ll keep it brief, because I have a new city to enjoy – I haven’t been here in three years, so it’s safe to say I’ll be lost in a few minutes :)

Kling Summer 2012 collection

The Spanish brand Kling recently launched a pretty look book for summer 2012. The photo shoot was inspired by the Beatles -  their famous Abbey Road album cover to be more exact. With big hair and dark red lips, the model is wondering around the London street, taking pictures and wearing cute 60s inspired dresses.

What I like most about this look book is the actual pictures (by Adrian Gonzalez). They’re warm and sweet, the setting is perfect and they capture the essence of summer so nicely. Out of the new collection, I can’t get enough of the Stella Dress – there’s plenty of room for it in my closet, that’s for sure.

The one in which I’m wearing jeans

I feel like there are two types of people: those who love jeans and those who don’t. For years, I’ve been part of the first category. My well being depended on the well being of my jeans. I’d often wash them the day before an “event” so they’d be tighter and cooler, and they often wouldn’t dry overnight and oh, the drama. This went on all through my teens and then years after, until I entered my dress years. Now I rarely, very rarely wear jeans – and it’s just these stretch, skinny ones that you’ll see in the pics, and that I’ve had for at least four years. This long blazer was practically begging for a jeans combo, so…
